This means that you probably will loose EVERYTHING if you re-install them, unless you can put your stuff into a partition that the install won't clear. Unable to log on and cant get into SAFE mode - IM DOOMED!!
Now everything works fine in Win98 SE, but Win2k will only detect my cdrom and writer in safe mode. Even with a clean install, at boot up, unless Win2k is in safe mode, is scans the cdrom and cdreader for about 4 minutes (I can see the lights go on and off on the drives) and then is unable to detect them.

I looked at KB304449, and gave that a shot, but I'm unable to log in using any of the Safe Mode options (regular Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, get the restore DVD to work, if I put an XP upgrade CD into my drive and boot from that, will running the upgrade give me a fresh installation of Windows?
